March 31 Boston, MA MIT Mostly Couples Israeli Partner Dancing

Mostly Couples Israeli Partner Dancing Night at MIT on 3/31!

The Israeli session of the MIT Folk Dance Club is proud to present:

*MOSTLY COUPLES NIGHT*

with guest teacher and programmer

*ERICA GOLDMAN!*

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

8:00-11:30pm

Sala de Puerto Rico, Stratton Student Center, MIT

"Mostly couples" means longer couples sets with some circles thrown in so
that you can change partners if you want. Of course, you can keep the same
partner for the whole night if you choose.

Erica Goldman (formerly known to all as "Howie's daughter") will return to
Boston for a one-night workshop at MIT! While living in Boston, Erica
performed with many of the local dance troupes including Screaming Sa'adya
and Zikukim, and was the director of Brandeis University's B'yachad. She
was a member of and choreographer for the Mandala Folkdance Ensemble and
traveled to Turkey as a member of the Collage Dance Ensemble to compete in
the Golden Karagoz Dance Competition in 2003. In 2004, she gave up the
snowy winters and the career in software to teach Israeli dance full-time in
Los Angeles. Shortly after moving to L.A., Erica led Israeli dancing on an
episode of the Showtime series "Weeds", after the writer and producer
participated in one of her workshops. She liked it so much she actually
wrote an Israeli dance scene into the show because of Erica! Currently the
Dance Director for Camp Alonim, a Jewish overnight camp where Israeli dancing
is truly an obsession, Erica also teaches dance at both Temple Judea
and New Community Jewish High School. She performs with the Keshet Chaim
Dance Ensemble and performed part of the suite they performed at the Kodak
Theatre for a celebration of Israel at 60, in a show that featured Idan
Raichel, Rami Kleinstein, and Achinoam Nini. Erica runs the popular
"mostly-couples" weekly Israeli dance session in Los Angeles on Monday
nights and co-hosts the Sunday night session with David Dassa. The last
time Erica performed in the Boston area, it was for a performance with
Zikukim at Tanglewood, accompanied by live music by the Boston Symphony
Orchestra. Erica recently completed two marathons (the running-26.2-miles
kind, not the dance kind!) in New Orleans and L.A.

Mostly Couples Night, sponsored by the MIT Folk Dance Club and MIT-Israel,
will be in the Sala de Puerto Rico, on the second floor of the Student
Center (visit http://whereis.mit.edu/map-jpg?selection=W20 for a map). The
Sala is an amazing dance hall with a wooden floor. Kosher for Passover
snacks will be provided. Suggested donation of $5 per person (students and
kids under 18 free).

May 30 Fort Lauderdale, Florida 14th ANNUAL ISRAELI DANCE FESTIVAL YACHAD

www.JewishNetwork.com

From: COPAVISION

SUBJECT:  14th ANNUAL ISRAELI DANCE FESTIVAL "YACHAD"  (Fort Lauderdale, Florida)
FROM:      Roger Weiger, Festival Director

Following last year's success, Festival Yachad will feature more than 500 dancers on stage from our own community and invited groups from Mexico, Brazil, Venezuela, Panama and Israel performing to Israeli folkdance music, with colorful costumes, amazing scenery and special lighting effects.

"This year our Festival Yachad reaches 14 years and we will be celebrating Jewish Women, therefore the gala's theme is "Nashim", which in Hebrew means "Women". Each choreography will portray a Jewish tradition that women do, like the Mikveh, Chalah making, Henna, etc. Biblical Women such as Miriam, Rachel, Dvorah and Esther will also be portrayed as well as modern women such as Chana Szenes, Ofra Haza, Naomi Shemer and Sarit Haddad will be honored. "It is a wonderful way to educate our children about their Heritage, while they perform our Jewish Traditions", explains, Nicole Papu, Festival Yachad Co-Chair.

"Festival Yachad"  is sponsored by Safra National Bank of New York and it is a pleasure for us to be associated with such a strong financial institution, who provides us with the support we need to bring this event to audiences in both Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach County says Esther Fuhrman, Festival Yachad Co-Chair.

Festival Yachad's Gala Performance will take place on Sunday, May 30th 2010, at 7pm at the world renowned Au-Rene Theatre at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are priced at $20 and $25 and are available for purchase through COPAVision Entertainment.  Contact Ira Weisburd at copavision@comcast.net or by calling: (561) 901-1200. See our Flyer above.
